Welcome to MCCOGS

The Muskingum County Chapter O.G.S. was formed in 1975 and chartered by O.G.S. May 13, 1976. We are proud of our over 40 years of service and hope we can be of assistance to you in the near future.

M.C.C.O.G.S. is located on the second floor of the John McIntire Library, 220 North Fifth Street, Zanesville, Ohio.

Muskingum County Genealogical Society is temporarily located within the Ohio University Zanesville Library at Herrold Hall, 1425 Newark Road, Zanesville. The Genealogy Library is staffed by volunteers from 10 am to 5 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. Appointments may be made for Mondays and Thursdays.

The Society has added access to Newspapers.com

Other databases available through the Muskingum County Library System are Ancestry Library Edition, Fold3, and Heritage Quest. All of the yearbook collection is available at OUZ.

The Society will be following the OUZ Schedule for holiday closings.

Emergencies or weather conditions may keep the volunteer from coming to work. It Is a good idea to call ahead if there are poor road conditions.


A new publication entitled "Before Dillon: Memories of the Lost Villages of Irville, Nashport, and Pleasant Valley" is now available. This 169-page soft cover book focuses on the lives and locations changed by the damming of the Licking River and formation of the Dillon Reservoir. It contains pictures and personal interviews with people who lived during that time period.


The MCCOGS' Market Place is now available. We have a limited number of items for sale as well as an online membership payment method. It is powered by PayPal so your transactions are secure.
